Concept
Ideally, I see the act of painting as an extension of seeing. It is a physical enactment of dialogue between recognition and uncertainty. Heavily applied paint, energetically reworked to produce a fine balance between figuration and abstraction enact this dialogue.
At times my pieces seem to derive from an unconscious mental activity. Vibrant, unrealistic colors, pulsating with energy display this intense emotion. The viewer’s unwillingness to submit a rational reading comes from the use of recognizable images with definate associations construct visual conundrums that resist interpretation.
